The Skeleton Dance for kids: a Halloween song that takes 100 seconds

What our Skeleton Dance is, how it differs from the one about the bones being connected, and how to use one hundred seconds of it at a Halloween party or in class.

There are two songs called The Skeleton Dance. One is about the foot bone being connected to the leg bone. Ours is not that one. If that is the one you are looking for, this page will not help you.

Our Skeleton Dance runs one minute and forty seconds and has one instruction in it: "Dance, little skeleton, dance." Then, "Dance with your hands in the air, and say yeah." That is the chorus. It is most of the song, and a three-year-old has it after two plays.

What is in the middle

Between the choruses there is a short count:

Four skeletons, four lines, then back to the chorus. It counts to four, not ten, because a song this short has no room for ten, and because four is the number a small child can hold up on one hand while the other hand is in the air. The full words are on the lyrics page.

Is it frightening?

It is a dancing song, not a scary one. The skeletons dance, and that is all the song asks of them. It is a Halloween song for the age group that likes the costumes and not the scares.

At a party

One hundred seconds is the right length for a room of toddlers. Play it, everyone dances, it ends before anyone has decided they are bored. Play it again. It gets more dancing the second time, because now they know the "say yeah" is coming.

In a classroom

"Dance", "hands", "air", "one, two, three, four" and "yeah" is most of the language a young English learner needs to join in. Do the count on your fingers. Do the hands in the air. It is a total physical response song wearing a costume. The rest of the classroom videos are on the teachers page.
